Heartwarming Historical Sagas

After becoming pregnant out of wedlock, only to find out her betrothed was already married, Kathy feared for her future. Her mother agreed to pass off the baby boy as her own, treating Kathy as an older sister instead.

While the worried family keeps a watchful eye on Kathy, a chance meeting with handsome RAF pilot, Alisdair, changes everything. They grow close quickly, but when miscommunication makes Kathy believe Alisdair has discovered her secret, she runs away from heartbreak by joining the Auxiliary Territorial Service.

The work is challenging and Kathy finds her new home in Yorkshire very different to the Glasgow tenement she grew up in, but she finds great friendships with women who know nothing of her past. And there is no shortage of lovely soldiers to dance with in the evenings.

But she didn’t come all this way for distraction. And despite being surrounded by new faces, she can’t get Alisdair, nor her hidden child, out of her mind…

A romantic and gritty World War Two saga set in Scotland that fans of Rosie Meddon and Rowena Summers will adore.

Elsie Weir is trying to keep her family together. Living in Kiltie Street tenement in Glasgow with her mother, Louise, and little sister, Jessie, isn't easy- especially as Louise is drunk most of the time. But life gets harder still when their mother dies suddenly. The future looks bleak, until Louise's estranged family reluctantly takes them in. But the relief is short-lived as it becomes clear the Mearns family have taken in the orphan sisters only for appearances, treating them cruelly behind closed doors. Now, more than ever, the sisters only have each other. But can Elsie and Jessie find some hope in a life full of heartbreak?

It's Glasgow 1939 and Jeannie Dougal accepts a marriage proposal from handsome soldier, Arthur Dunn. Though she is unsure if a girl from the tenements will suit Arthur's middle-class background. But as WW2 takes its toll, her wedding must wait. Her job at the muntions factory widens her social circle, and while her new friends bond together in war work and stories of romance, Jeannie is grateful to be settled with Arthur. Until she meets charming Canadian soldier, Bill, and realises she has found a spark she was always missing. But how can Jeannie tell Arthur? And is she strong enough to fight her own battle, with the country already at war...?.

About Carol

I write heartwarming historical sagas usually set in Scotland. I do a lot of research to ensure that my characters’ stories are immersed in authentic backgrounds and real life events. That means as well as happy endings, there is some grittiness and some heavier themes reflecting real life in those days.

I have always loved writing and began by writing short fiction for women’s magazines. I then discovered the wonderful world of pocket novels and wrote over 20 which were published by DC Thomson and also as large print library Linford romances by Ulverscroft – most of these are still available in libraries if you’d like to read them.

I love reading romantic and historical sagas and so it felt quite natural to begin to write them myself. When I’m not writing, I like to wander around museums or walk through Glasgow and other Scottish places looking for traces of history to inspire my next novel.
